Unknown – A new play about homelessness

RoughHouse Theatre present an original radio play in support of UK theatres and The Big Issue

Between 2017 and 2019, more than 800 people died living and sleeping rough on the streets of the UK, a number of whom have never been named or identified. It’s a shocking statistic, yet it can be easy to lose sight of individual human stories when we’re simply presented with the numbers.

This September, a new audio play will dramatise the tragic but true story of one young man’s journey from an abusive childhood to a life on the streets of Bath, one of the UK’s most affluent cities, and we’ll be one of a number of theatres across the UK supporting the project.

Presented by RoughHouse Theatre, Unknown is a verbatim radio drama written by playwright Dougie Blaxland in collaboration with seven people with recent experience of homelessness: Sammy Clark, Nathan Dempster, Ian Duff, Paul Jones, Lloyd Rusdale and Anthony Williams. It is directed and produced by RoughHouse Theatre‘s Shane Morgan and Moira Hunt. Casting includes Dan Gaisford, Sabrina Laurison and Alex Stedman.

Funded and supported by Arts Council England, The Big Lottery Fund and The Big Issue, the play will be available for free online from Friday 9 October, but listeners are encouraged to make a recommended donation of £6 where possible.

All donations of £6 made to the Belgrade Theatre will be automatically split, with £1.50 going to support The Big Issue Foundation. If you would like to donate more, please let us know by emailing developmentadmin@belgrade.co.uk, so that we can ensure a portion of your donation is sent to The Big Issue.
