Performing artists aged 16-21 are invited to submit to a new online arts festival
The temporary closure of arts venues across the country has had a massive impact on the ability of independent artists to create and share their work, particularly those at the beginning of their careers.
That’s why our second Saturday Shout Out today goes to Reclaimed Fest – a brand new digital arts festival developed by China Plate’s Young Producers and Warwick Arts Centre to showcase work by, with and for young creatives.
Taking place from 26-28 June, this online festival will offer a safe, supportive space for those who are struggling more than ever to share their art – especially those who had already started work on performances which they have missed the opportunity to share because of lockdown.
Video submissions are currently being accepted from spoken word poets, theatre-makers and dancers aged 16-21, which you’ll need to record at home and send in via the online form.
The deadline for applications is 11.59pm on Friday 5 June.
Artists selected to be featured in the festival will receive feedback from an industry professional via a pre-recorded introduction. They’ll also have the chance to take part in an exclusive Q&A with a professional – a great opportunity to ask your pressing questions about creating work during the pandemic and embarking on a career in the arts.
Three artists – chosen via an online audience vote – will then receive gift cards of £50, £30 and £20 for first, second and third place respectively.
Further guidelines on creating and submitting your videos can be found on China Plate’s website. For more information, you can also email youngproducers@chinaplatetheatre.com or andrea@chinaplatetheatre.com.
