In Conversation with Static and Curtis Liburd

Coventry grime artists Static and Curtis Liburd discuss masculinity, mental health, music and more in conversation with Corey Campbell.

As part of our Black Futures programme, we were excited to welcome Coventry grime artists Static and Curtis Liburd to the Belgrade for an afternoon of performance and conversation with our 2021 Co-Artistic Director Corey Campbell.

Over the course of the day, they shared some of their songs with us, as well as discussing topics including mental health, masculinity and identity, filmed in two parts by our Audience Development Officer and Embedded Community Producer Ayesha Jones.

Launched during Black History Month in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests across the world, Black Futures is a multidisciplinary celebration of Black creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurship in the West Midlands, with events taking place both online and in-person.

As part of the programme, we’ve been inviting artists, practitioners and community leaders from across the West Midlands into the Belgrade to share their work, ideas and hopes for the future. Together, we’ve been exploring how history informs our understanding of the present, and how current events might shape the histories of the future.
