We’re delighted to announce that the Belgrade Theatre’s longstanding Year 6 transitions programme, Big School, will be back, live and in person, for Coventry primary schools again this summer.

Big School is an original theatre-in-education programme for children in Year 6 that combines live professional theatre with participatory activities. It’s designed to support pupils to explore their feelings about the move to secondary school and to equip them with useful strategies for dealing with issues of transition.

The programme is delivered in your school hall by experienced actor-teachers, and supported by a teacher’s pack that enables both preparatory work and extensive follow-up.

This year’s tour will run for three weeks between 17 June – 5 July 2024.

Big School FAQs:

How long is the show?
The ‘Big School’ programme (performance and participatory activities) is approximately 1hr 30 in length.

My school is one form entry, can I share with another school to spread the cost?
Yes, schools are able to share a performance if they wish, but the maximum number of participants in this instance is 90.

What time do performances take place?
There are two performances available on each tour date, with start times of either 9:30am or 1:30pm. If you wish to book an afternoon slot please could you let us know if your school day finishes before 3:15pm.

Are there materials available to support the show?
An education pack is available to support further exploration of transitions following our visit.

This is the first time my school has booked ‘Big School’, how will we know what to expect?
For first-time bookers, we’re happy to talk you through the programme, and supporting materials, before it visits your school.
Please let us know at the point of booking if you need a member of our team to speak to the Year 6 class teachers in advance.

What will the company need on the day of their visit?
We will need use of a hall space for the duration of the show (as well as for set up time before the performance starts).
The team will arrive in a van with the set, so a parking space close to the school building is also greatly appreciated.

How do I book?
To make a booking, or for more information, please contact Claire Procter at cprocter@belgrade.co.uk or call 07736324818.
