We're looking for members of Coventry's community to participate in devising and performing Nothello.
As Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 enters its final months, we’re thrilled to present the world premiere of Nothello, written and devised by Mojisola Adebayo and Justine Themen, based on William Shakespeare’s Othello.
Nothello will play at the Belgrade from Sat 7 – Sat 21 May, and will be the final production of our City of Culture programme.
We’re looking for members of Coventry’s communities to be part of this innovative production.
Youth Group
Who are we looking for?
Mixed-race young people aged 11-18
What will you be doing?
Participants will be creating text and movement scenes with the director, and performing in half of the shows in rotation.
When will you be needed?
Thursday evenings in February and March.
Rehearsals in April and first week in May. Some daytime and evening rehearsals in April and the first week of May (dates TBC).
Performances from Sat 7 – Sat 21 May.
Mixed-Race Chorus
Who are we looking for?
12 members, 16 years+
What will you be doing?
Participants will co-write three songs and sing them as part of a chorus in the show. Some will have opportunities for speaking roles. It may not be necessary for all members of the chorus to be at every show in the performance run.
When will you be needed?
Song writing workshops: Sat 5 March 10am-3pm and Thurs 10 March 7pm-9:30pm.
Singing workshops: Thurs 17 March 7pm-9:30pm, Thurs 24 March 7pm-9:30pm, Thurs 31 March 7pm-9:30pm.
Approx. Six rehearsals in April and the first week of May (dates TBC).
Performances Sat 7 – Sat 21 May.
Inter-Racial Couples
Who are we looking for?
Eight pairs – four performing each night.
What will you be doing?
Participants will take part in dance workshops, perform as dancers at the end of the show, and some will be cast in the opening scene as well. There will be some choreographed dance, working with participants’ own dance styles. Dance experience welcome, but not required.
When will you be needed?
Dance Taster: Thurs 3 March 6:30pm-9:30pm
Dance Workshops: Sat 19 and Sat 26 March 1:30pm-5:30pm and Sat 9 April time TBC.
Approx. Six rehearsals in April and the first week of May (dates TBC).
Performances Sat 7 – Sat 21 May.
