Find out more about the five people we've chosen to take part in our first ever Media Academy
We’ve recently selected five dedicated film-makers, photographers, editors and journalists, aged 18 – 30, to join the Belgrade Theatre’s first ever Media Academy.
Over a 6 month period they will develop their skills, receive free training from industry professionals, produce new work, be introduced to new contacts, showcase their work to an audience and receive free mentoring from Belgrade staff.

“I’m a Film and Media Student, currently completing my BA Hons Level 6 Film Production. I also do freelance videography (J45 Films), editing and most recently started my journey as a Twitch Streamer. The journey that I've taken has been a weird one, and doesn't correlate to where I am now. From retail worker, to working in a creative industry that I'm in love with. I just love to create, and have that freedom to express myself. In the future, I'd love to work on a big project which could have an impact on many people. Whether it's film or a documentary, honestly I don't care what it will be, because either way I know I will be having fun.”
“My experience in photography is very beautiful and wonderful and I love taking pictures a lot because I enjoy photography and I feel comfortable, and as I previously said, I want to transfer the beauty of things that I see in my eyes through my lens to the world and also before I started photographing I did not care about the story behind the picture, but after I started photographing, and I participated in a photography course, I learned that there is a story behind the pictures. I like to take photos of people and nature photography.”
“My name is Tamra, a media and communications student, part time support worker and aspiring creative. My life as a media student has introduced me to so many talented young people and pushed me to venture beyond my comfort zone. As a black British woman born in Tanzania, I know what it’s like to yearn for a sense of belonging. I want to inspire women alike to feel confident in their craft and that what can be perceived as a disadvantage is in fact a strength. Writing has always been my way of being heard and creating my own voice, which is why it is something I have been trying to practice in my own time through my personal website.”
“My name is David Bohus and I am a videographer with previous experience in weddings and documentaries. I have always aspired to become a famous cinematographer / director that brings to life abstract narrative style documentaries which push the audience to question the nature of reality.”
“My name is Oana Catalina. I am filmmaker and a photographer. I am a practical visionary who thrives to become a great storyteller and a film director. Visuals are my main language. I have created promotional materials for Coventry University Students’ Union, Coventry Comedy Festival and Coventry Festival of Running. I was introduced to the film market at Cannes Film Festival in 2019, I did a course at Pinewood Studios for being an Assistant Director in 2020 and I recently received my first credits on Amazon for the feature film “Sustain” by David Hastings. ”
“I like Action sport photography. I like recording videos and editing them by myself. I do some filming for an organisation called PYF (Positive Youth Foundation) in Coventry. They run sports and activities for young people. I also like taking pictures for events like football match or any other events in the community. For example, I took photos of a fashion show in 2019 for refugee week. I have an Instagram page of my photos. ”
