Culture Central leads a West Midlands-wide response to the COVID-19 outbreak
Today Culture Central announces the launch of the West Midlands Cultural Response Unit, a new initiative supporting the region’s cultural sector to respond to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Led by Culture Central in partnership with members of the arts and culture industries across the West Midlands, the WMCRU aims to promote the visibility, viability and recovery of cultural organisations during and after the lockdown.
Drawing on research, the unit will focus on strategy and planning, co-ordinating region-wide campaigns and communication. It will also offer support, training and development for those working in the sector, as well as celebrating the role that culture is playing in the current crisis.
The initiative has already won support from the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG2022) Coventry City of Culture 2021, Arts Council England (ACE), West Midlands Combined Authority, (WMCA) and their Cultural Leadership Board, Local Enterprise Partnerships, including Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP, Birmingham City Council, Regional Local Authorities and many of the leading cultural organisations and independents in the region.
Audiences and individuals are also encouraged to sign up – those interested can subscribe to receive updates via Culture Central’s online form. You can also join the conversation by following @culturecentral on Twitter, posting using the hashtag #CultureRU, or by joining the WMCRU Facebook group.
